Trouble with the Jump Spin Kick
I have been having quite a bit of trouble performing a jump spin kick for a while now. I try to practice it frequently, but I find it extremely discouraging, because I get both disoriented and dizzy from practicing it. My problem is, I either do not jump high enough, or I spin without jumping at all, or a mixture of those two.
Whenever I try the kick, I hardly ever land on my feet, when I do, I quickly lose balance or fall from dizziness. My second problem is that for some reason I trip over my own feet in the air whenever I try to complete the kick, or whenever I try to throw the kick out, nothing happens at all and I fall on my backside. Good for break fall practice but not for kicking . . .
I am rather awkward and a little overweight, also I’m a bit wanting in the balance department. I have the drive and the mentality of a martial artist but I am lacking in skill. So here is a question for Bluemoonblog readers, can anybody help me understand what my problem is and why I am having so much trouble with this kick. Any pointers and/or advice would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks in advance

oh yes, the jump spin kick, second only in difficulty to the low spin kick! My advice Andy – Watch the black belts do it. Then get someone to video yourself doing it. Compare the two and make adjustments. Failing that – practice one thousand times (on each side left and right) then you will get it. I too lack skill in this department but I try my best and am happy with the result. If you want to improve. Practice. Do you think we all got good at jump spinks over night or better still… Born being able to do them? No, of course not.
Patience young Jedi, Practice them you must.
2nd thought – do you remember the game we play by standing in Ki Mah Jah Se and jumping and turning 360 degrees to land back in the same Jah Se? Start by perfecting that. This will help with your balance and your landing. Once you have this skill, you can then start to add the kick from Kohng Kyuk Jah Se and Bahng Uh Jah Se.

I actually have some really good pointers for this kick. I will make a blog post this coming week for ya. It will help with your height problem and your dizziness.
As always, the way I think is anyone can learn the big picture for anything in Kuk Sool, but to make something work the little things are the most important. You will see.
Hi, Thanks for your advice PSBN Jon, and I look forward to reading your blog post Max
[...] Kuk Sool under Black Belt Curriculum are Low and Jump Spin Kick. My good friend Andy over at the BlueMoonBlog has been having some trouble with Jump Spin Kick and asked for some [...]
Andy here is my words on this kick. Step 2 will also help with you dizziness because you will only move your head once instead of letting it follow your body around in a circle.
