The Darkness homecoming concert at Thetford Forest

Yesterday we headed off to watch The Darkness at their homecoming woodland concert at Thetford Forest, and what a night, they were simply spectacular!

A woodland glade at High Lodge was changed into a concert venue, and as the night drew in, the atmosphere became electric. The evening started with Walkway, a local classic rock band, and then southern American rockers Black Stone Cherry, the special guests of the Darkness, took to the stage.

Now I have to be honest, I’d never heard of the Kentucky bred, hard rockers Black Stone Cherry, but their songs were as catchy as hell, the vocals rich, and the performance powerful. That said, and I’m not sure if it’s an age thing, but I could have done with some subtitles so I could sing along! John Fred Young, the drummer and backing vocalist, was mesmerising to watch. It was filled with passion, skill, and energy, and simply incredible. I’d defiantly go and see them again!

And to the highlight of the evening . . . . The Darkness hit the stage!

The anticipation had been building for hours, and you could feel a wave of euphoria and excitement pass though the crowd as they walked on. The Darkness filled the air with thundering, almost ear-splitting drum, guitar, base, and Justin sang spectacularly in his unique, soaring falsetto style, it was just breathtaking.

The Darkness with their hilarious lyrics, Justin’s flamboyant persona & extravagant outfits made for an awe-inspiring, captivating, and unforgettable concert. They played a good selection of songs from past and future albums, I Believe in a Thing Called Love, Love Is Only a Feelin, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us, and my favourite, Everybody Have a Good Time.

But what made the concert really, really special, was going to the after show party, and getting to meet everybody, enjoying a drink, chatting, mingling, and taking loads of pictures. It’s a memory that will last a lifetime.

Justin thanks for the invite, your craft is astonishing, you and the Darkness rock!
