Sparring confidence
Last Night, during the “non contact” sparring warm-up, I got struck in the shin twice, once when I kicked at the same time as my opponent, the other when I blocked an incoming kick. Now, I’ve got used to pain over the last few months, so it’s not usually a problem, however, I have got to say that my shin really smarts and I will defiantly be investing in some protection.
You’d think having an extra layer of fat over me bones would help cushion the blow, but it doesn’t.
Nevertheless, I Have got to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the sparring, as I was able defend myself much better by using some of the defensive/attacking techniques I have been thought over the past few weeks. I did still get hit, but a lot less, and I could feel my improvement. I found myself able to very quickly plan and execute an attack and my defensive moves were responsive and automatic. My stamina has improved , however, towards the end I did find myself a little lead-footed.
Now that’s quite a turnaround for me, as some months ago I really didn’t enjoy sparring at all. I’d even go as far to say if I have the opportunity to enter next year’s competition, I’d jump at the chance, as long as they’re old/slow/fat opponents like me.
